We've been homeschooling for 2 1/2 years and only with our oldest son. There are so many choices available to homeschoolers that it almost boggles the mind. I planned to homeschool long before I started. I reasearched teaching methods and curriculums. I joined online discussions groups and read what real homeschool parents were saying.
Here is how I made my decision for curriculum. I knew it had to be free to almost free. If I told my dear sweet husband that we were going to spend upwards of $500 per year for curriculum, he would have looked at me like I was as crazy as he thought I was the first time I ever mentioned homeschooling!
I base our school year off the plans given at http://oldfashionededucation.com/ . Not everything there works for us. I look at everything that she recommends for the year and if something is not going to fit our needs, I simply look for the alternative.
