Oh, how many people will probably cringe when reading this!
My husband has always been willing to help with household chores as he has time. Several years ago, he got tired of sorting laundry, so he started mixing everything together.
Me being me, I said you can’t do that! In fact I said it several many times.
Fact is, I eventually came to realize that none of our clothes were harmed in the process. So what works for our family, is 1 load a day, all thrown in the washing machine with no regard to proper sorting rules. On Saturday I do at least 1 extra load so that I can wash the linens for the household.
I would not pass this tip along if I had been doing this for a week. We literally have been doing this for YEARS. The only exception is when we get something new that has a potential for bleeding onto the other clothes or if my DH has a lot of grease on his clothes for a particular day.
What a relief and time saver to know 1 load a day and it’s done.

We do this too. When I started, it felt positively scandalous! Plus, the one-load-per-day idea really helps keep things under control.
ReplyDeleteThat's great! I don't sort my kids' clothes except to separate the bright reds and pinks, the rest (from white to navy and all in between) goes in together. I use Shout Color Catcher sheets just in case something bleeds.
ReplyDeleteGasp! LOL, just kidding. I noticed there are at least 3 WFMW linky's for sorting laundry so I'm glad you've shared. I've wondered if I'm the only one who doesn't see much benefit to it. Some of our clothes get sorted, mainly because it's a good way to break the loads down, but the kids' clothes never get sorted.
ReplyDeleteWow. It sounds so scary. But I know I've thrown things together that shouldn't be in an effort to get done quicker.
ReplyDeleteHuh. Gotta admit, I'm not likely to try this. Too nervous about my reds bleeding on my whites.
ReplyDeleteI admit it... When my hamper system breaks down, I will throw in a few darks with lights. so far, no disasters!
ReplyDeleteI applaude your bravery to admit this in blogyland :)
We accidentally stumbled upon this too. But, I never recommend a bright red anything washed with a load of whites! eeeeek. Now, that has happened.
